What to Wear (“Umm, some help here, please!”)

“What should we wear??!!”

That’s one of the top questions I get asked by clients!  I feel strongly that you, yourself, should like and feel comfortable in the clothes you choose for your portraits.  Not everybody has the same style and taste in clothing, and that’s okay.  That said, there are things you can do to greatly enhance your protraits,  simply by putting some thought into your wardrobe choices.

Family portraits look best when the entire family looks coordinated.  Now hear me out!  I don’t think that the whole fam should arrive in matching reindeer sweaters and khakis.  Rather, imagine throwing each of the family member’s choosen outfit onto one person.  They should harmonize.  The colors should not clash.  The styles of each item should not be vastly different from the others.

Maybe Mom has a dress that she absolutely wants to wear for the session.  Try pulling out colors or shades from that dress as a starting off point of what everyone else will be wearing.

Also, consider the venue.  Is the session to be in a garden setting?  Downtown?  And do you invision your final product being of the kids dressed in their Sunday best, or maybe in something more casual?

Below are a couple of examples of some clothing that would contribute to a lovely family photograph.

My number one tip for choosing clothing for your or your child’s photography session is to pick clothes that will enhance the subject and not overwhelm or distract from the person.  You may visit  www.catherineamissphotography.com  and check out the “session details” section for more tips!

Hope you’re having a great weekend.  Seems like a perfect day for reading a good book on the couch or snuggling up for a movie.  🙂
