A Baby Fresh 2012

Happy New Year! We, at the Amiss household, had a lovely Christmas - full of family and celebrations and remembrances of our Lord’s birth. It was also full of colds and sniffles and tired, “over-Christmas-fied” children and WAY. TOO. MUCH. CLUTTER. I decided the boys’ needed a revamped playroom, and an organized way to store their toys. A 6-hour round-trip trek to Ikea Charlotte later plus HOURS of assembling/painting, and their new storage unit is *almost* finished.

I had SO not intended to share these pics with anyone….but now that I’ve told you about the project, I feel I must post the progress (“progress”??).

Here are the new shelves I’m ~~building.~~ assembling according to instructions, then trashing the instructions and redoing it a different way, resulting in a 10 extra custom hours.

And here’s the mess we’ve been literally jumping over.

Do any of you get all ambitious at the beginning of the year? Anyone else tend to lose that ambition before the project is complete?

Here is a much more blog-worthy picture, below. I got to photograph the SWEETEST little baby boy today. Little “D” was such a good boy and all cuteness and smiles for me today. I’ve just started going through my files from this session, so I’ll post a few more later, but I have to leave you with at least one image. Happy 2012!

Christmas Cards

Hello! Did you have a good Thanksgiving? Our 3 days with my family included a traditional dinner, decorating my parents’ Christmas tree and celebrating one of my sweet niece’s first birthday. It was so nice to spend time with my siblings and their kids. Here’s a couple of pictures of the birthday girl, Grace and her big sister, Anna.

Thrice as Nice

It was another gorgeous fall day for this session. Beautiful light…in the 60′s. Ha! Our original date in October ushered in the first frost and sleet (yes, sleet!) of the season. It’s amazing how varied the weather is in autumn. (Yesterday it was over 70!)

How adorable is this family? Seriously, these kids look like dolls. The movable kind. The very movable kind! Heehee. One and a half year olds always keep me running! My specialty is photographing children, and even though children are always unpredictable, I just LOVE their zest for life and how honest and natural they are. Genuine smiles. Genuine laughter. AND – I sometimes get sweet little hugs, too! I do love my job. Here’s a little sampling of our session:

Fabulous Fall Family Fotos (say that 5 times)

One thing I love about my job is having repeat clients. I photographed this family 4 years ago; the parents haven’t changed much, but their daughter sure has grown! We walked around downtown and got some great family shots.

Heehee…the image below is a fun shot. “Miss M.” gave me her best “Ewww…my parents are smooching and not paying attention to me” look. Love it!

Fall Family Session Preview

Here’s a little preview for a family who has been patiently waiting for a peek at their session. They have a new addition who has the biggest blue eyes and the sweetest little face.

I am totally smitten with this little one. Look at those enormous brown eyes and mischievous grin…how could I not be?

Big sister was sooo good during our session. She’s such a sweet and pretty girl.

The oldest did a great job of making his siblings laugh by telling jokes and being silly.

Lots o’ Sugar

I can hardly believe October is over and done with. Did your kids dress up last night? Here are a few pics of my power ranger and my little monster. Austin takes karate and is really into it, so it’s only natural that he is also a big fan of the power rangers. (Me? Not so much; I prefer Backyardigans.) Micah thought he was so fierce and scary, so I tried not to use the word “adorable” in front of him! He made such a huggable monster!

By the end of the evening Micah was saying, “I’m soooo sleepy.” He’s a little boy after my own heart…..zzzzzz.

It’s Fall, Ya’ll!

Well, hello there! Remember me? No?? That’s because I’ve been a very bad blogger, but I pinky-swear promise to make it up to you in the next few weeks.

It’s peak leaf season here in Roanoke, VA and man, it is beautiful. Don’t you just love fall! I’ve done a few sessions at Carvin’s Cove Reservoir recently which is a *perfect* place to spend an autumn afternoon. I believe I publicly declared my love for that place last year, so I’ll spare you the gush.

The session features a 2 and a half year old girl. I love 2 year olds. Whaaa??? Yup. I do. They are sweet and playful and very, very honest. Normally, however, when I photograph toddlers, I run. And run. And run. Two year olds happen to be very fast. So I was pleasantly surprised when this absolute doll sat so nicely for me and let me focus my camera….while sitting myself! Yay! Here’s a sampling of our session:

Field of Lace

This little missy is about to turn one! I know her mom and dad can’t believe how fast time flies. Her daddy is away on active duty with the Air Force so pictures are extra-special to him. I’d like to say a big “thank-you” to those serving in the military and to the families of those serving, too.

We did our session in my backyard field; I love the sunlight in the late evening. Wow, mother and daughter are stunningly beautiful!

Here’s a pull-back of the same picture. Can’t decide which I prefer…

Little Miss “C” is such a HAPPY little girl and had quite an interest in the flowers, leaves and various bits of nature around her.

Here she is all dolled up in her birthday skirt (see below). Her mom makes the tutus. Isn’t it gorgeous? (Email me if you want her contact info.)
